Day 3: GEULAH - SEEING HASHEM IN OUR LIVES

We all long for the Geulah. But what is it anyway?

The Redemption is often seen as utopia; Moshiach the one who will usher in world peace. We picture candies on trees and diamonds on the streets; smiling, loving faces; and reunions with our loved ones. We think of an end to illness and we imagine aggressor nations blowing up their own nuclear arsenals. But though our chachomim teach us that these wonderful changes will indeed transpire, “perfect world” is not the true definition of Geulah. These are the symptoms of the change, rather than the change itself.

The core change that will define the Days of Moshiach is described by our Neviim as universal awareness, perception and knowledge of Hashem:

“Umal’ah ha’aretz deiah es Hashem kamayim layam mechasim” - The earth shall be full of knowledge of Hashem as the waters cover the sea. (Yeshayahu 11:9)

“V’niglah kvod Hashem vera’u kol basar yachdav ki pi Hashem diber” - The glory of Hashem shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see together that the mouth of Hashem has spoken.” (Yeshayahu 40:5)

In our present golus reality, the truth of HaKadosh Baruch Hu’s constant presence is concealed. Nature seems to run its course and we feel in control of our own lives. Just as Paroh brazenly asserted, “Li ye’ori va’ani asisani,” the world of galus claims credit for its own existence, and it is natural for us to be swept up by this falsehood – believing yet not truly integrating the belief that all truly is orchestrated in every moment by Hashem.

When Moshiach comes, the truth will be apparent: Everything that happens is by Divine Hashgacha. We will not simply believe in Hashem; we will see Him. We will know Him.

As a result of this universe-shattering revelation, everything will change. All people, overwhelmed by the revelation of Hashem, will abandon their selfish interests and divisive behaviors. All negativity will dissipate in the blinding light of truth. Even the physical world will reflect this focus by serving its Borei with perfection.

We, today, can usher in the Days of Moshiach by learning about Hashem and recognizing His Hashgacha in our everyday lives. We can experience Geulah moments when we face challenging situations with Emunah and Bitachon. We can make Geulah a reality by tuning in more deeply when we daven, contemplating how we are truly communicating with HaKadosh Baruch Hu. And every time we put our personal interests aside and ask “What does Hashem want from me?” we usher in the day “mal’ah ha’aretz deiah es Hashem.” May it be today.
